Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that the work of a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
We have certainly taken her words to heart. Our idea for
The Smile Train was conceived by a small group of folks.
Our organization is governed by a small board of directors.
And our staff, that oversees 90,000+ surgeries a year, hundreds
of partners and programs, in 75 of the world’s poorest countries
consists of just 30 people.
Other charities that help similar numbers of children have hundreds
of employees.
Yes, we are small and proud of it.
We make decisions, develop programs and move much faster than
larger charities.
We’re more responsive to our donors and much more in touch with
our partners.
And the millions of dollars that we save in salaries, offices, dental
plans and furniture, etc. means thousands of extra smiles every year.
Margaret would be proud. |
